3 Island Crossing, Glenn's Ferry, Idaho

After a week of temps in the 90's and 100's I checked the 45 day forecast and saw the same temps predicted for at least 45 more days in every direction form where I was. That's too hot for me so I did a 180 and am heading back to Oregon for a few months! I am now staying at this location for 2 days after driving 6 hours from Clark's Canyon. I always like to take at least 1 day break after  drive that long. It was 103 yesterday and will be the same today. Lots of shade here and power so I can run AC.

Also lots of open spaces and green grass at least in the park!

You can see the Snake River thru the gaps in the trees!

I spotted these little ones while doing a morning bird walk!

This has been a great adventure but I look forward to cooler temps of Oregon!

Clark Canyon Campground

I am set up in Clark Canyon Campground just south of Dillon, Montana. I actually arrived yesterday and spent last night in Armstead Campground as it has full hookups which I wanted so I could run AC. The campground is built on a downhill and sidehill slope with very few level sites. Those were taken by earlier arrivals and by unattended trailers being used for storage. Not a place I would recommend! This morning I walked to Clark Canyon and decided that despite no hookups I preferred it so I went back, packed up and moved across the highway. Lots of trees, great view and level rocked sites!

The campground is built on the shore of a reservoir built on the Beaverhead River. Apparently it is world renown for its fishing.

Clark Canyon is named after William Clark of the Lewis and Clark expedition. There is a bronze plaque dedicated to Sacagawea for the assistance that she gave to the expedition. If I ever pass thru here again I will definitely stay here!

Massacre Rocks State Park, American Falls, Idaho

I am on the move again. I left Elgin on Saturday morning and spent the night back at Farewell Bend SP. I was surprised at how few campers compared to my visit 1 month ago. The ranger told me when it gets hot the crowds stay away. I understood when it reach 101 that afternoon, about 4  PM, and did not go below 100 until after 8 PM. One of the main reasons I stay in campgrounds with electric is so can have AC! My solar system is not powerful enough to run it and I am too lazy to connect and start my generators which would handle it. Sunday I drove about 300 miles in 6 hours to Massacre Rocks. I am trying to get out of the heat wave hitting the Northwest but again the temp reach 101. Temp should be about 10 degrees cooler today. This campground is along the snake river and is populated with Juniper trees.

You cannot see the river from my site but I know which sites to choose if I ever stay here again. The river views are beautiful.

I made a couple bird walks but kept them short due to the heat! I did get to see a new, to me, flower species, a Giant Blazingstar!

Tomorrow I go to Armstead campground in Dillon Montana where high temps will be in mid 80's.
