Boulder Beach Campground-Lake Mead-Nevada

Camping at Boulder Beach Campground.

Boulder Beach was only $10 per night with my National Senior Pass. The pass also gave me free access to the entire park! The campground has flush toilets and plenty of spigots with potable water. The is an on site waste water dump as well. There is plenty of sun but also lots of Salt Cedar, Cottonwood and Eucalyptus trees for shade. The Lake Mead beach used to be a couple hundred feet from campground but is now about 1/3 of a mile. The campground is about 30 minutes from Las Vegas so it does get busy on the weekends.

When you think of Las Vegas, birding is not the first thing most people think of. It is probably not even a thought you might have but there are a number of great birding opportunities in the area. Henderson has two great birding hot spots. Clark County Wetlands Park and Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. In my 2 visits to the preserve, I identified a total of 64 species, several which were first for  my life time birding list. To see a list of the birds, click here: Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve (To see a list with pics, click on the date at the end of the entry.) For those not wanting to browse my bird list. here are a few of my favorite pics.

A red-naped sapsucker on a Salt Cedar tree in the campground.
A Gambel's Quail and cotton tail rabbit.
Great Egret, Snowy Egret and White-faced Ibis

In case you think I am only interested in birds, here are other creatures I digitally captured:
A coyote!
A Sulfur Butterfly.

  1. That looks like a great camping area. I think we are going to have to make that a stop on our way to Arizona this year.
