I headed east from the coast several days ago with an overnight stop in Veneta then on to central Oregon. I pulled into Indian Ford campground yesterday morning and I set up then headed for the fee booth to pay. To my surprise there was a sign stating it was reservation only at this time. I called the number of the reservation site only to get a busy signal. I decided to just spend one night while I looked for camping options. Before heading out I took a quick look around and saw that there was now a brand new bridge over Indian Creek where there was nothing before!
It is a pedestrian/bike bridge but no more trying to cross on downed trees! I crossed the bridge and noticed that there was now a road into the abandoned campgrounds across the creek. It existed previously but was now improved so that they could bring materials in for the bridge. I backtracked the road to where it started on Hwy 126. Since it is in the national forest and dispersed camping is allowed, I moved there early this morning. It is not maintained and there are no fire rings but it still has picnic tables!
One of my favorite things about this area is the great birding along Indian Creek. Not only have I seen lots of species of birds but also a Long-tailed Weasel and 2 cow elk! Among the birds I have seen here is a Gray Catbird! A new species for me in Oregon!
I have already made several bird lists for this location. To see the latest list and more bird pics, CLick here: ebird list
